Tile installation cost

The easiest way to get an accurate estimation of how much your tile installation project will cost you is to call us today for a free quote!

Tile installation project costs vary so much due to many reasons - what are do you want to be tiled? Does existing tile or flooring need to be removed prior to the installation or will we be working on a blank surface (such as a new home build)? What is the size of the space being tiled? Is it a small backsplash area above a bathroom sink or the entire kitchen floor? How large or small are the actual tiles being installed? Small tiles take much more time and materials to install than larger tiles.

Our process

Even on a larger area, like the floor in your kitchen, if the tiles are large, for example ceramic tiles that are 1.5' by 1.5', then the project will be less expensive than tiling a bathroom backsplash with tiles that are 1" by 1". Smaller tiles take more time to install, so those project cost more. What kind of tiles are you wanting installed? Mosaic and glass tiles are trickier to install than ceramic or porcelain tiles, requiring more preparation and experience. If you are wanting your project completed with specialty tiles, make sure to hire a team of contractors who are experienced working with them. The El Paso Tile Installation team has more than 10 years of experience working with custom specialty tiles.

When it comes to the actual tile, generally the most inexpensive option for tiling is ceramic tiles. Porcelain tiles tend to fall next to ceramic tiles in terms of cost. Glass tiles tend to cost more than both ceramic and porcelain and mosaic and glass tiles typically fall at the pricier end of the spectrum.

Some of our clients start out attempting a DIY tile installation. In most cases, we recommend against that. Here's why. Tile installations can not only be time consuming, but also come with their share of risks if you are not a seasoned professional, especially in kitchens and bathrooms where water pipes can easily be damaged through the walls. If you want to know more about what we do and what our tile installation process is like, check out our installation process below.

1. Demolition
Before we can install the new, the old must go. With residential or commercial remodels in the El Paso area, we have to take out the existing tile, laminate, carpet or wood to install the new tile. We have a team of seasoned experts when it comes to demolition and disposal. We understand that our workspace is your home, office or business. We pride ourselves on keeping our workspace clean, which allows for the demolition process to be completed quickly and efficiently. We will discuss with you how to keep your personal belongings, furniture and other household items protected and clean if they are within range of our workspace. We will also discuss trash removal with you, depending on the size of the project, so that arrangements can be made prior to our start-date to keep the space as clean as possible and litter-free. (This step doesn't apply to new home or business tile installations.)

2. Preparation
After we complete the outstallation portion of the process, we will begin the preparation phase of the tile installation. In order to properly install tile in El Paso, TX, we first need to establish a flat surface on which the tile will be laid. We will choose the proper surface, or substrate, we are going to use. This could be plywood, drywall, cement or concrete. The choice depends on where we are installing the tile and the type of tile we will be installing. The substrate that we use must be free from dirt, oil or moisture so that once the tile is applied, it has a blemish-free surface to ensure maximum adhesion. We ensure that the substrate is completely flat. If it's not, the tiles installed may chip and crack when weight is applied to them, like walking on top of them for tile flooring or leaning on them like a tile countertop or shower surround. Our team's high attention to detail ensures that the substrate is clean and our surface is perfectly flat before we install. The final part of the tile installation preparation process is waterproofing the surface so water is not able to leak through. Part of what makes tile so great in the home is its water resistant qualities. The waterproofing part of the process protects what is underneath the tile (like drywall or plywood) from water damage.

3. Installation:
This is the final part of the tile installing process. During installation, your tile is set completely flat with a small space between each tile where we will apply the grout to adhere each tile not only to the substrate but to close up gaps where water could intrude. We remove the tile spacers and seal the spaces with grout. By this point, we have gone over the design with you and know exactly where each tile will be set. The vision finally comes together during this last step and it is so worth it! Your tile installation is complete!
